Mineral oil or Paraffin oil is a useful oil for making oil baths and storing reactive metals. It is composed of high boiling inert hydrocarbons distilled from commercial crude oil. Amateur chemists can use baby oil since baby oil is mostly composed of highly purified paraffin oil. It's best to use oil that is unscented and hypoallergenic as that oil is purest and has no reactive additives.

The coolant being used is mineral oil, since it is non conductive, relatively cheap, and won't harm the components on the motherboard. Mineral oil is used in industrial equipment as an electrical insulator, in things such as power pole transformers, and other high voltage equipment. We had an old Dell dimension 4550 computer that was scheduled for execution, and we decided, why not use it to test the oil cooling, if it got fried oh well. Oil cooling a pc has its benefits and drawbacks for sure. First, its kind of messy, you should probably take an existing system that works well and do a submersion cooling system, or on a new rig build, put it all together and get everything working perfectly. The usual swapping of components back and forth during a build should be avoided. The oil will eventually evaporate, so you should have a system that can be completely sealed if you want to use it long term. Fans ...

After watching several people build an oil cooled PC, me and my friend thought it would be cool to give it a try and at the same time, make it unique and look cool. My friend, being a carpenter, built the case known as AquaFlow that would contain the entire system in the single box. The case is in two sections, the lower being the tank where the main hardware sits and the hard drive and optical drive sit in a hinged upper section. We made the mother board tray able to easily slide upwards for easy access and maintenance to the system without having to drain the tank of oil. Anyways, we put this video together to show the system being filled and and fully running with 12 and a half liters of oil. Hope you enjoy our little endeavor, comment!!!
